Course Description & General Information

Safety Solutions Swift Ltd is approved by the RSA to deliver CPC training courses. The Driver CPC training course was developed by the RSA and is a European Union law, Directive 2003/59/EC, that states that professional drivers must receive ongoing periodic safety training. All drivers of goods vehicle of 3.5tonnes and drivers of buses with accommodation for more that 8 passengers are obliged to undergo period training with the following 5 years. It is set in the regulations that this training is provided in blocks of not less then 7 hours duration. Therefore drivers are obliged to have completed 35 hours before 10th September 2013 for bus drivers and 10th September 2014 for goods vehicles.

New drivers of both Bus and HGV’s will not receive their license until they complete 1st course module.

HGV Licensed Drivers: are required to attend 1st course module before the 10th September 2010. The 2nd course module will need to be completed by 10th September 2011.

Bus Licensed Drivers: Periodic training was introduced in Ireland as a legal requirement on the 10th September 2008 for all bus, coach and minibus drivers. New bus drivers will attend 1st module before September 2009, which was extended to the 10th December 2009, and their 2nd module will need to be completed by 10th September 2010.

Module 3 – Health and Safety of the Professional Driver

(1) The importance of physical and mental ability of professional drivers
(2) Preventing physical risks

Module 4 – Role of the Professional Driver in the Transport Industries

(1) Ability to adopt behavior to help enhance the image of the profession
(2) Understanding the social environment of road transport and the rules governing it
