Safety Statements
A Safety Statement is the most basic legal requirement of all employers. The company Safety Statement is a written document that describes how Health and Safety within your company is managed.
To keep in line with current legislative requirements, namely Section 20 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, it is the legal duty of every employer to have a Safety Statement.
Our approach to compiling a Safety Statement is professional, comprehensive and company specific. In order to gain the required insight into your company and complete specific risk assessments we need to visit your place of work and meet the people involved. This approach ensures that we can advise you where there are legal deficiencies within the workplace and systems. This results in specific recommendations in order to ensure that your company remains compliant with the ever-changing legislation and codes of practice.
Risk Assessments
The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 Part 3, Protective and Protective Measures state that the employer has a duty to identify all hazards in the place of work in his/ her control, assess the risks presented by those hazards and be in possession of a written assessment.
A Risk Assessment defined simplistically is a considered examination of what, in your workplace, could cause harm to people and once it is established you can then assess if you have taken suitable precautions or are more precautions necessary to prevent harm.
The risk assessment is not necessarily to quantify the risks that are present in the workplace but to identify them and then to establish control measures to eliminate.
Workplace H & S Audits
The benefits of an external audit can be immense in terms of evaluating your compliance to the applicable legal regulations.
Safety Solutions consultants provide a specific audit to meet your workplace requirements. This will incorporate analysis of actual activities, equipment and substances as well as a comprehensive review of documentation and training requirements. Our audits incorporate an action plan to which your company can work to in order to ensure your legal obligations are fully met.
VDU & Ergonomic Assessments
The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work, (General Application) Regulations 2007, Chapter 5 of part 2 on display screens requires an employer to provide an ergonomic assessment to any employee using a VDU (Visual Display Unit) as part of his/her work.
A competent person must carry out this ergonomic risk assessment of an employee’s workstation.
Safety Solutions can carry out ergonomic assessments on individual workstations to help reduce the risk of musculoskeletal and repetitive strain injuries to your employees and also to ensure you are legally compliant.
Applying ergonomics in the workplace reduces the likelihood of accidents, reduces the potential for injury and ill health such as aches and pains of the wrists, shoulders and back, and improves performance and productivity.
Accident Investigation
Despite best efforts accidents can still happen, this is a reality within all organisations and companies. The ability to organise an effective response to an accident or incident is crucial.
It is the legal responsibility of an employer to report an accident to the HSA. Safety Solutions can carry out an accident investigation on your behalf in both a sensitive and efficient manner. This service will also include assistance to ensure where possible that the requirements of the relevant authorities are met fully.
The main purpose of any investigation should be to establish the root cause of the accident/ incident / dangerous occurrence in question and thereafter to identify and implement corrective actions / control measures to prevent reoccurrence.
Management Systems
With prequalification and tendering more competitive than ever Clients are introducing more stringent criteria in terms of an applicant’s health and safety performance. One of the criteria currently sought, particularly in the public sector is a management system accredited by an external body. One such standard to which you can have your safety management system accredited to is the Safe T Cert standard.
Safety Solutions can assist you in the design and implementation of a safety management system which can be accredited to the Safe T Cert standard and will ensure you are legislatively compliant and give you a competitive edge whilst prequalifying and tendering for work.
