It is a requirement of certification as a PHECC First Aid Response (FAR), PHECC Cardiac First Response (Community) and IHF BLS or Heartsaver Instructor that re-certification takes place every two years and is carried out by a PHECC Recognised Institution (RI) or Approved Training Institution (ATI) and an IHF approved training site.

This re-certification has been designed specifically to assess and evaluate the competence of FAR, CFR (Community) and BLS or Heartsaver Instructors.

Aims 

The general aims of the Instructor assessment are:

•  To verify the First Aid Response of the candidate.
• To verify the cardiac first response knowledge of the candidate.
• To confirm the ability of the candidate to deliver the First Aid Response, cardiac first response course to learners using the agreed format and PHECC/IHF learning materials.
• To confirm the ability of the candidate to assess a learner’s skills in accordance with FAR, CFR, BLS course requirements.
• To verify the candidate can demonstrate appropriate preparation for delivery of first aid response and cardiac first response training.  This will include demonstration of course set-up, equipment preparation and room layout to ensure maximum learning opportunities for course learners.
• To provide feedback to the candidate on their performance during the assessment.

Who should attend/Pre-Requisites  

Existing PHECC First Aid Response,  Cardiac First Response (Community) Instructors.

Completion of IHF Isntructor Rnewal Form

Delivered a minimum of 4 FAR courses and either 4 BLS or Heartsaver courses in the previous 24 months.

Assessment 

Delivery of part of the FAR, CFR and either BLS or Heartsaver course in a simulated classroom setting.

Duration 

Approx. 105 minutes

Certification 

PHECC and IHF certification for successful candidates will be administered and issued by Safety Solutions in accordance with PHECC and IHF award requirements. 

Conduct of Assessment

The format of the assessment will be as follows

1. Candidate will be required to set up a mock classroom using their own equipment. Candidates must arrange to bring the required equipment to the assessment as such equipment will not be provided.
2. Using an appropriate delivery method, candidates will be required to deliver a section of the FAR course.
3. Using the PHECC video, candidates will be required to deliver a section of the PHECC CFR community course.
4. Using the IHF BLS video, candidates will be required to deliver a section of the IHF Basic Life Support course or the IHF Heartsaver video, candidates will be required to deliver a section of the IHF Heartsaver.
5. Candidate will demonstrate CPR/AED skills in accordance with PHECC CFR clinical practice guidelines. Skills to be measured by one assessor using CFR Community assessment sheet (PHECC FOR047).
6. Candidate will be required to assess FAR skills performance by a simulated student as directed by the assessor. This will entail completion of the PHECC FAR learner assessment form for the given demonstration by the simulated student.
7. Candidate will be required to assess CFR skills performance by a simulated student as directed by the assessor. This will entail completion of the PHECC CFR learner assessment form for the given demonstration by the simulated student. Familiarisation with the IHF assessment sheet will also be assessed at this time.

The assessment will be video recorded for quality assurance and internal review purposes only.

Candidates must ensure they are using the most uptodate version of Safety Solutions FAR PowerPoint (Version 4) if affiliated with Safety Solutions.

Candidates must ensure that, if they are using their own presentation, it FULLY meets the PHECC FAR Education and Teaching standard and ALL learner outcomes are covered.
